Psychology
Ensuring that each student has the right strategies to deal with his or her
specific emotional and behavioral needs is a priority at Summit School.
Well Being Through Collaboration
The psychology department at Summit School works within a interdisciplinary team framework to consult with school staff to improve the well-being and school experience of children at Summit School.
We are privileged to work together with a group of professionals to develop strategies to support students’ academic, behavioral and social-emotional needs using a tiered approach. Our team follows a model of practice where teachers are encouraged to first proactively offer positive behavioral supports at a school-wide and class-wide level as part of our PBIS program, while identifying students who benefit from more individualized strategies tailored to that student.
In conjunction with the school’s behaviour technicians and other professionals, psychologists assist in the development of individualized behaviour programs for students that help clarify expectations, teach social skills and appropriate behaviour, and reinforce positive behaviour.
