Summit Launches New Webpage for the Ethel and Morty Fruchter Summit Café at Maimonides

We’re proud to announce the launch of a brand-new webpage highlighting one of Summit School’s most heartwarming and impactful initiatives — the Ethel and Morty Fruchter Summit Café, located inside the Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre.

This unique café is more than just a coffee stop — it’s a space where community and learning come together. Operated by students from Summit’s TECC campus as part of WOTP accreditation and employment skills training, the café gives neurodiverse youth meaningful work experience in a real-world setting. Under the guidance of job coaches, students take part in everything from prepping and stocking to serving Maimonides staff, residents, and visitors.

The newly launched webpage shares the story behind this special initiative, and celebrates the students at the heart of it all. Visitors can view photos, read about the program’s goals, and see how the café contributes to both vocational training and intergenerational connection.

The café is named in honor of Ethel and Morty Fruchter, whose support helped make this space a reality — one that empowers students, brightens the days of Maimonides residents, and models what inclusive, community-based education can look like.

Check out the page, share it with your network, and help spread the word about this inspiring partnership!
