P.E.A.K.S. Program

P.E.A.K.S. has allowed us to encourage our students in positive behaviors in a consistent school-wide manner.

PEAKS (PBIS) Schoolwide Reward Program

Summit School's P.E.A.K.S. program is a customization of the world renown PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Program). Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based framework for improving and integrating all practices affecting student outcomes every day. It is a way to support students in order to create a school where all students are successful.

The PEAKS Program

  • PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports.

  • It is a systemic approach to proactive, school wide discipline.

  • PBIS applies evidence-based strategies for all students to increase academic performance, decrease problem behavior, and establish a positive school culture.

  • PBIS build on existing strengths, complementing and organizing current programming and strategies.

  • Behavior Support is the redesign of environments not the redesign of individuals.

  • We change the student behavior by changing the adult behavior.

  • The PBIS model has been successfully implemented in thousands of schools.

  • The underlying theme is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject.

  • Students earn points for following the PEAKS tenets.  They can then exchange these points for various rewards.

  • PBIS incentive rewards gently motivate and empower students to take responsibility for their own behavior and to strive to improve throughout the school year.

  • Students are especially motivated when they have had a hand in selecting the rewards themselves.

  • By giving attention to positive behavior and academic achievements, you encourage the student to repeat the behavior that has brought him or her praise, positive attention, and yes, rewards.

  • PBIS incentive rewards work in tandem with behavioral interventions to prevent undesired behaviors and fuel students’ internal sense of worth and potential.

Monthly PEAKS Assemblies

Every month there the PEAKS Committee holds assemblies in the gym to give out awards to students who have been working very hard at following the PEAKS tenets. It is also a time for students to come together, have fun and learn more about the benefits of good behavior!

MIGOU

Our PEAKS Mascot is MIGOU the Yeti. The Yeti is a misunderstood beast. Even though they were once revered, the Yeti is often feared because people only judge him by what they see. And all of these misconceptions have forced the Yeti to live in hiding.

People need to understand that he is not frightening, in fact, he has a lot to offer if you take the time to look!  Yetis are known to be hard workers and they just want to be accepted.

The Yetis' personality and difficulties were the reason we felt Migou was the perfect Mascot to represent our school.

Migou's Market

Throughout the year, students at the main campus can visit the Migou's Market and cash in their points for gift certificates, toys or in-class privileges. Migou's Market is run by one of our graduate students, who makes sure the shelves are stocked and keeps track of inventory.

For those students at LHA or TECC they can shop online from the Market or they have mini stores at their campuses as well.
