Occupational Therapy

Summit School’s Occupational Therapists (O.T.s) help our students to be as independent as possible in their daily occupations which includes:

  • Self-care (dressing, eating, hygiene)
  • Productivity (school performance, workskills)
  • Leisure activities
 
We work in conjunction with the classroom teachers and the rest of the school team via consultation & classroom support, class groups, and other interventions in order to promote development and/or provide adaptive strategies & materials in order to maximize performance in the following areas:
  • Sensory Regulation (provision of sensory strategies and tools)
  • Sensory-Motor Functions
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Cognitive Skills (basic concepts)
  • Visual Perception Skills
    (including oculomotor / eye movement control)
  • Handwriting Skills
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
  • Personal: feeding, dressing, hygiene, toileting
  • Instrumental: Home living skills, community living skills, etc.
  • Leisure skills
  • Vocational skills & work habits
